Sorry I haven't posted in a while - I've been working, but on things that didn't seem significant enough for their own blog post. With the arrival of GameMaker 2, the maps will be very easy to create, with single chunks taking only a few minutes to create opposed to at least 10 minutes. I have chosen to divert my attention from the creation of the maps for the time being, as they can be completed easily when GameMaker 2 leaves beta. I have, instead, chosen to focus on creating more content for the game. Recently, I've been working on implementing more crafting stations (furnaces, rocket tables, etc.).
This crafting table allows for the smelting of ores as well as other objects that must be smelted.
This crafting table allows for the creation of rockets, missiles, or anything related to rocketry.
This crafting table allows for the creation of powerful armor and weapons.
Ice blocks and cloud blocks have also been implemented, as well as sinkholes, a new core game mechanic.
What are sinkholes?
Sinkholes act as stairways to the next layer in the Underground. To get from the surface of the spawn planet to underground, you must craft a sinkhole spawner, which is an object that spawns a sinkhole. It must be, however, as deep as possible in the ground.
The Layers of the Underground
There are 10 layers in the Underground - each layer consisting of progressively better materials. There is a sinkhole spawner for each layer, and the spawner progressively requires more materials to craft.
Until next time!
November's monthly task is to finish the inventory rewrite (Crevis) and to begin drafting levels (Nesus).
